This project was for a company developing a new Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT), primarily for automotive applications, which offers significant fuel economy savings over standard automatics.
With a highly influential end customer, the project was to bring together an all-new transmission design concept, research activities, control software design, prototype component manufacture, build, installation, commissioning, in-vehicle development, calibration and tuning. The completed prototype demonstration vehicle was then shipped out to Japan (confidentiality agreements prevent full disclosure).
This was achieved against extremely tight timescales which were absolutely fixed by an AGM shareholder demonstration.
There were considerable challenges throughout this programme, including:
Lack of belief that the timelines were achievable;
Conflicting priorities; and
All in all an excellent learning and development experience!
